*DATA SELECTION AND SCREEN PLOTTING OPTIONS* Option *1* Provides detailed selection of profiles from either the CD-ROM drive or other system drives. Profiles are plotted on the screen, but are *NOT* stored as output files. Option *2* Provides detailed selection of profiles from either the CD-ROM drive or other system drives. Profiles are stored as output files on a user-assigned drive, but are *NOT* plotted on the screen. Option *3* Provides a combination of detailed profile selection, data plotting, and data storage in user-assigned files Option *4* Terminates program execution *DATA SELECTION OPTIONS* This option provides the capability of selecting profiles by the NODC archive *data type*. Data types include: *1* SD2 Nansen bottle *2* STD Low resolution C/STD *3* MBT Mechanical Bathythermograph *4* XBT Expendable Bathythermograph *5* SBT Expendable Bathythermograph at fixed levels *6* IBT Radio message Bathythermograph Option *7* Provides for selection of a *COMBINATION* of archive data types. Selecting this option will cause another menu to appear which prompts for the detailed combination required. *DATA SELECTION OF ALL PROFILES* This Option provides for the selection of *ALL* NODC archive data types. The default is *NO*, and can be selected by pressing the CR or ENTER key. Selection NO will display a series of screens which will prompt you for a yes/no response to each individual archive type. *DATA SELECTION BY COMBINATION* Each of the six archive data types will be displayed with a *Y/N* response requested. The default is *NO* and can be invoked simply by pressing the CR or ENTER key. The program will respond to either upper or lower case letters. Selecting *NO* to every prompt will cause the program to return to the previous *DATA SELECTION* menu. This could be used if you erroneously selected the combination option by mistake. *DATA SELECTION BY GEOGRAPHICAL POSITION* Option *1* Provides a selection of data from a single World Meteorological Organization (WMO) ten degree latitude/longitude rectangle. Option *2* Provides a selection based on a user-defined latitude/longitude rectangle. This option is *NOT* available on Version 1.0 of the NODCSEL software. Entering this option will simply result in returning to the prompt line. *DATA SELECTION BY WMO TEN DEGREE SQUARE* The World Meteorological Organization has divided the globe into four quadrants: 1 = North Latitude, East Longitude 3 = South Latitude, East Longitude 5 = South Latitude, West Longitude 7 = North Latitude, West Longitude Each quadrant is divided into a series of squares bounded by even ten degree values of latitude and longitude. Each square is coded using the quadrant, tens value of the lowest latitude, numerically, and the hundreds and tens value of the lowest longitude, numerically. A square bounded by 20N, 30N, 140E, and 150E would be 1214, i.e., quadrant *1*, *2*0 degrees of latitude, and *14*0 degrees of longitude. *SORRY, NO HELP AVAILABLE* *SELECTION OF CD-ROM DEVICE LETTER* This software requires the input of the MS-DOS device letter assigned to your *CD-ROM reader*. The default is the 'C' drive. An incorrect drive letter, or the assignment of a drive which does not contain the directory and file structure of the NODC CD-ROM disk will result in program termination. Once the correct drive letter has been entered, it will become the default for the current session. *SELECTION OF OUTPUT DEVICE* You have selected the option to write profile data to an output file. The software requires that you identify the MS-DOS device driver letter. Typically, letters A and B are assigned to floppy drives, C and above for hard disks. *WARNING* Assigning the CD-ROM reader as an output drive will result in program termination at the first write call. *SELECTION OF OUTPUT FILE NAME* You have selected the option to write profile data to an output file. The software requires that you enter a fully qualified file name. Note that all directories and subdirectories must be named, other- wise data will be written to the subdirectory from which this program is being executed. To write to a subdirectory called *PROFILES* and a file called *TEST.DAT*, type: \PROFILES\TEST.DAT *WARNING* The program does not test for the existence of your file, and will *overwrite* if a file with the same name exists. *DETAILED SELECTION OPTIONS* In addition to a geographical and NODC archive data type selection, you may chose one or a logical combination of two or more *detailed* selection criteria: *1* No detailed selection (DEFAULT) *2* Selection by dates *3* Selection by country *4* Selection by vessel or platform *5* Selection by NODC cruise reference number *6* Selection by minimum sampling depth *7* Selection by a combination of two or more above Selecting any detailed option will result in further screens prompting for more definitive selection criteria *SORRY, NO HELP AVAILABLE* *SORRY, NO HELP AVAILABLE* *SORRY, NO HELP AVAILABLE* *SORRY, NO HELP AVAILABLE* *SORRY, NO HELP AVAILABLE* *SORRY, NO HELP AVAILABLE* *SORRY, NO HELP AVAILABLE* *SELECTION BY COUNTRY CODE* You may select data collected by the vessels of a particular country by entering the NODC Country Code at the prompt. The following are the codes for the most prevalent countries collecting data in the Pacific: *06* Federal Rep. of Germany *35* France *09* Australia *49* Japan *18* Canada *57* Mexico *20* Chile *65* Peru *21* Taiwan *66* Rep. of the Phillipines *24* Republic of Korea *74* United Kingdom *28* Ecuador *76* Peoples Rep. of China *31* United States *90* U.
